A Time to Remember

As many of you know, this Monday is Memorial Day. Over the years it has simply become an extra day in your weekend. Just another excuse for department stores to have huge sales and price drops. Very few Americans still treat this day the way it was intended to be: a day to honor our countries veterans. A day to say "thank you for risking your life for my freedom." A day to praise God for the overwhelming grace and mercy shown to our country. It is also a day to remember those who died heroes. Many of those died painful deaths in order to save many lives. This memorial day, make sure you take time to thank God for those who were willing to lay down their lives for the sake of liberty. Without those men, we would live in a much different America. One that had no respect for the word Liberty, a word many soldiers died for.

Monday Musings

For the past two weeks, I have read the book 1776 by David McMullough for school and decided to give a review. First, I want to say I truly enjoyed the book and believe that it would be appropriate for any age. McCullough does an extremely good job explaining the battles in the year 1776. he does not, however, give any real insights into the politics side of the story. He also did bring the Divine Providence into it very nicely. He did not neglect to show that the odds were against the Americans and that some supernatural help was with the Americans. Overall, I truly enjoyed the book and it is a great resource to read while studying this time period.

Also, this past Monday we went to the Science Museum in down town Raleigh and saw a movie on the octopus. I can not begin to describe the wonders of this amazing creature! It truly is amazing! Some octopuses can actually act like other bigger animals to stay alive. They can mimic sea snakes, the most poisonous creatures in the ocean as well as plants. They can change color and their texture. I think that this creature is wonderful proof of a Creator. How could such a smart, well equipped animal come from random chance?

Our family has been so happy about this weather. What a blessing! I hope you all have enjoyed it too!

Red Roses for a Sweet Heart

Today, an exciting thing happened for my mom. She received roses! She was so excited. They were the ones that you order and they ship them to your house. She had never gotten flowers in the mail. They were from my dad for Valentine's Day, which I had forgotten is on Sunday! How could I forget! As a family, we have always gone on a field trip for Valentine's Day but this year we will be going on Saturday.

Hope all of you have a good week!

Snow Days

Howdy all! Many of you know, it has snowed! We got a total of five inches. Since we live in the south, we don't get to much snow. Our road goes down a huge hill near the end of our neighborhood. When it snowed and then sleeted, it created the perfect conditions for the ultimate sledding experience! Well, at least the best I have ever had( which there has not been many:)! I hope to post some pictures soon but still trying to figure that out so stay tuned. The picture here is one of my favorites taken on Friday night. Notice Graysons breath. Also, that is the treat our mom prepared for us after our sledding morning. ;)

Today was another day of school, errands, piano, and chores. Not much exciting today happened except I passed my science test! :) Last year, I took up the task of learning how to make bread. For this year, I am going to learn (hopefully) about herbs and how to spin. I am very excited and can't wait! Grayson this year will be taking on more responsibility with helping dad in the yard and in the work shop. Olivia will continue to help mom during every day activities. Have you guys decided to do this year?

A Long Time

Hello! It has been a long time since this blog has been written on. I, Lenyer, have taken over the blogging and hope to write often. I hope all of you had a wonderful 2009. I know our family did. We were greatly blessed and were able to take many vacations. I hope all of you were also blessed this past year.
Right now, my grandparents are here visiting. But the main reason they are here are a sad one. Our dear friend, Lottie O'Neal, has passed away. But really this is not a sad thing. She was born July 27th, 1912 and was 97 years old. She is now rejoicing with her loving savior. We are going to her funeral tomorrow.
I do not know about ya'll, but I am ready for summer! This weather is just plain freezing! I am defiantly a summer person. Ya'll remind me that in the middle of July.
Well, I hope you guys will check in every once in a while. I won't be able to write every day but will try to write and post pictures often. God Bless!
P.S. I just felt like putting that Charlie Brown picture up. :)
